This term indicates that components are protected from the environmental conditions acting on them by means of coatings (organic layers, e.g. lacquer, powder coating) and/or overlays (inorganic layers, e.g. galvanising, chromating, enamelling).
Explanation: This term is sometimes also used for corrosion-resistant materials, where the existing resistance has been increased by further measures (e.g. aluminium corrosion protected = anodically oxidised aluminium, trade name: Eloxa).
